Mother’s Day is a celebration of love and gratitude.

As we approach Mother’s Day this May 14, I invite you to reflect on the love and gratitude for your mom, mother-in-law, or important mentor in your life.
No matter whether the relationship with your mom has been positive or negative, ask yourself what you have learned from it.
What has triggered you and how can you release those issues. Can you shift your perspective, accept your mother for who she is, and let go of trying to change her? Most certainly our mothers did the very best they could to raise us. They weren’t given a manual on how to raise a child and neither does anyone of us receive any of those guidelines.
What are the things that you love about your mom? What are some fond memories that make you smile?
If you can reach out to her and tell her how much she means to you, remembering all the little things and all the blessings. Talk to her, write her a card or if she has transitioned communicate to her in your prayer or meditation. Feel the love in your heart. Close your eyes and breathe into that love. Give yourself permission to feel deeply.

We don’t have to wait for a special day to tell our loved ones how much they mean to us. So take this opportunity and bring to mind all those who make you feel loved, nourished, held and supported in addition to your mother. For example, your spouse, dad, child, siblings, friends, pet, mother earth, the Universe/God/the Divine, etc.
Take a moment to close your eyes and feel the love in your heart.
Take a few deep in- and exhales all the way into your belly. Let your heart expand with every breath.
Feel the gratitude for those special relationships and send your love from your heart to theirs. When you feel ready, gently open your eyes.

Now with your heart full of unconditional love, bring your awareness to yourself.
You may be a mother, godmother, stepmother, not yet a mother, will never be a mother, a mother who lost her child, or decided that you never want to be a mother. You may be a mother to your pets, or contribute to others in a different way. Sometimes you may feel strong and confident and at other times weak and not good enough. You may follow your bliss, know your purpose, and feel fulfilled or may be searching, feel lost or confused. No matter where you are or what you do, know that you are unique and have a special gift. By following your calling, you thrive and receive tons of fulfillment along the way. What are your special talents and gifts? And how can you use them to make this world a better place one person at a time?

If you are reading this article, I am pretty sure that an important part of your legacy is to spread love, to touch others’ lives in a special way, to see them for the unique and special person that they are, to communicate with compassion and kindness, treat others with respect, and show them that they matter. You may have days where negative emotions, thoughts or events challenge you. Just trust that your intention, continuous practice and raised awareness will guide you back when you are ready.
Your interaction with others may be mainly within your family, job, community, or you may reach out to others on a larger scale. Every single being that you touch in your life, is affected by how you treat them. Be the light in the world. Be the change that you wish to see.
Start right away by closing your eyes, placing both hands on your heart and feel the interconnectedness to all that there is. Tap into who you truly are beyond all labels, and perceptions. Sense the love and gratitude in your heart for all the blessings in your life. Amplify the love that you have already cultivated, let your heart expand.
You are cultivating unconditional love.
Practice to speak, act, and think from the level of your heart and notice how your life and relationships transform.
Wishing you all the gifts that come from cultivating unconditional love!

Happy Mother’s Day!
